I’m Evelyn Mahon, an actor & musician based in Amherst, MA.
Recovering Statistician, newly minted artist, life long actor.
I moved to the Pioneer Valley in 2019 to be with my partner in life, love, and luthiery. After helping get his classical guitar building business going, I told myself that I would fully re-commit to live theatre in the spring of 2020. The world had other plans for all of us.
Raised by academics in a small but intensely cultured small town, I had a lot of early exposure to the arts. None of them beguiled me so much as the magic of making people laugh.
When the summer theatre season ended and the New York talent went back to New York, I made do with studying the VHS tapes of the greats. Monty Python, The Kids in the Hall, vintage SNL, Charlie Chaplin, and Carol Burnett were my prophets, and the small cabal of professors’ kids who weren’t allowed to watch cartoons (but somehow late-night comedy from the 70s was age-appropriate) would gather at each other’s houses and recite the scriptures in unison: “This parrot is no more. He has ceased to be.”
In young—adult life, I kept up my passion for comedy and added a few more for zest: Tolkien, mathematics, watercolor painting, and cooking (among others), but at the heart of it all, I just want to make people happy. And it’s not to smile when you’re laughing.
